Universidad de São Paulo

Universidad de São Paulo (USP) is Brazil's biggest higher education institution. It is widely known around the world, especially in Latin America, and trains the majority of Brazilian professors and doctors, who are responsible for high education and research centres. It is state-owned and free, accepting anyone that has passed the Brazilian university entrance exam. After their training, many of these students will go on to hold strategic and leading positions both in the private and public sectors.

USP is organized into 7 campuses, 40 teaching and research units, 5 hospitals, 5 museums, 5 specialized institutes as well as numerous science laboratories and centres for the dissemination of science and culture. It offers approximately 700 degrees covering all the areas of human knowledge. There are nearly 230 degrees with more than 3.400 courses and an annual average of 5.500 students. USP's degrees (more than 500 between master's degrees and doctorates) are an international example of science and technology development.

In order to facilitate communication between university and the outside world, USP structures all its media under USP Social Communication Coordination (CCS): Radio USP, TV USP, Agencia USP de Noticias (“USP News Agency”), Revista USP (“USP Review”), Jornal da USP (“USP Journal”), Portal de la USP (“USP Portal”) and Revista Espaço Aberto. Besides, CCS supplies additional services that strengthen this integration: Visitors Centre, Argus Documentation, Graphic Arts Division and Public Relations, Marketing and Advertising Division.

In an effort to support its main functions, USP relies on a managerial structure made up by a Rector Office and several subordinate offices, university council, university campus prefectures, and central and service bodies, as well as several outsourced services, such as bank offices and cash dispensers, post offices, stationer's shops, coffee shops, public transport and others, in order to meet the needs of the university community.
